THE DIFFERENCE IN SILVER

We first came across silver in cartridges in the early 80's. At this time no- one could explain how it worked, whether it was good or bad, or even why you needed it.

As we became more heavily involved in silver in water filters, we found we had to be aware of what was being used in the marketplace and how effective each treatment was.

Silver in cartridges is often referred to as silverised carbon or silver impregnated carbon. This is such a broad statement that it can give you a false sense of security. In one process, particles of silver are sprinkled through the carbon. Another is where it is claimed that the silver is bonded to the carbon. However, if you have bonded silver to the carbon, this has reduced the efficiency of the carbon to do its job of removing chemicals, and also the thin film of silver would be quickly removed by the elements/chemicals in the water. The other process where silver is sprinkled throughout the carbon is not effective because it has been determined that silver is only effective in two processes. One being in colloidal state where microscopic particles of silver are held in suspension. The other is where all water must come in contact with silver. The mere presence of pieces of silver within a volume of water is not effective.

The following experiment shows the result of using a world-renowned brand of silver impregnated carbon cartridge against one of our Alternative Carbon Cartridges.
