B.E.S.T. Water Filters

(B.E.S.T. stands for Bacteria Eliminating Silver Treatment)

The B.E.S.T. HOUSEHOLD SYSTEMS

A WATER FILTER WITH A SILVER LINING.

There are two ranges available for use in household situations. These are the 'B.E.S.T. Alternative Onbench/Underbench Range' and the 'B.E.S.T. Electronic Underbench Range'. Both ranges utilise silver to destroy bacteria.

The 'B.E.S.T. Alternative Onbench/Underbench Range'

This system utilises a bed of crystals coated with a sanitising solution of silver before and after the filtration process. Here you are assured no bacteria will breed within your water filter. The level of silver released is very low, hence it is not as effective in preventing bacteria regrowth in stored water. These units are more compact and less expensive.

The Alternative process is also used in our Inline Water Filters. It is a low cost Alternative.

The 'B.E.S.T. (Electronic) Underbench Range'

The silver is electronically released when you turn on a tap. A controlled, trace amount of high quality silver is released into your water. This process will ensure your water filter and any stored water are free from bacteria for an extended period of time.

INSTALLATION

The B.E.S.T. Alternative Inline Units

FRIDGE When the B.E.S.T. Alternative Inline filter is used on a refridgerator, ice machine or office cooler, bacteria is prevented from contaminating the water lines after the filter. This reduces the problem of the 'tangy taste' in your ice and chilled water, which can be associated with bacterial contamination.

SINK Water to a sink can pass through the B.E.S.T. Alternative Inline then through your existing tap or alternatively a separate tap for filtered water only. (NOTE- When installing through an existing combination hot and cold tap, you may experience an unbalanced flow through the hot and cold taps.)

The B.E.S.T. Alternative Onbench Units

The Alternative Onbench units are useful when you want an easy way to relocate a water filter from your home to your caravan/motorhome/etc. and vice-versa as it is not a permanent installation. They offer protection at the point of use only. This means that your tanks can still be prone to bacteria breeding and creating a biofilm, however the A-OB1a and A-OB2 models will stop these 'nasties' from entering your drinking water.

The Alternative Onbench comes with a diverter valve, which simply attaches to your sink tap. This diverter valve directs the water to either come straight out of the tap or diverts it to come out of the water filter. The unit sits on top your bench near the sink. This will need to be secured when travelling.

NOTE - To install this type, you require a standard sink tap which has a threaded aerator (as found in homes).

The B.E.S.T. Alternative and B.E.S.T. Electronic Units

It is best that these units be mounted directly before the drinking water point. This is usually below your kitchen sink.

To conserve the filter cartridges, an additional touchtap is supplied that is installed in your sink top. This will eliminate using your filtered water to wash dishes, rinse hands, etc.

The filtered water can then be used to drink, use in your kettle for cuppa's, cooking,  rinse fruit and vegetables, etc.

Install your selected B.E.S.T. unit on the mains pressure cold line with a Compression Tee Control Kit (supplied with unit). Install an additional touchtap (supplied) on your sinktop to dispense filtered water only .

Alternatively, if you do not want an extra tap on your sinktop, you can filter all of the cold water to your sink by running the outlet line off the unit, back up to your existing cold sink tap.

Please Note: There are wires that run from the chrome sections before and after the unit to the circuit box (located above right of the unit). These wires are not shown in this picture.

Any of the B.E.S.T. or B.E.S.T. Alternative units can be installed in the manner shown above.

If you have other appliances that require the B.E.S.T. water, a 1/4" Tube Quickfit Tee can be installed on the outlet line from the filter to the touchtap. This additional line is then run to your appliance/s (E.g. - Fridge, icemaker, etc.).

TECHNICAL & MAINTENANCE

There are three major parts to our Water Filters: The cartridge, the housing, and the Original SilverSafe® Silver Cannister or the B.E.S.T. steriliser.

CARTRIDGES:

  • Pre (Sediment)

  • Carbon (A-OB1 & A-OB2; E-UB1 & A-UB1; E- UB2 & A-UB2)

  • Micro Carbon (A-OB1A; E-UB1A & A-UB1A)

  • Ceramic (A-OB2; E-UB2 & A-UB2)

PRE FILTER (Removes dirt. Must be discarded.) When travelling in dirty water areas, it is recommended to install and extra housing fitted with a pre filter.

CARBON FILTER (5 micron - Absorbs chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, THM's, most colour, taste and odour. No protection against bacteria or parasites. Must be discarded.) A carbon filter is always required due to the unknown additives in the water. [Cartridge Life- subject to water quality; Replacement- every 16,000 litres, or when flow is unacceptably reduced.]

MICRO CARBON FILTER (1 micron - A combination of the assets of the Carbon Filter and the Ceramic Filter. Not cleanable.) Required to remove chemicals and prevent the release of parasites/cysts. [Cartridge Life- subject to water quality; Replacement- 16,000 litres, or when flow is unacceptably reduced; Requirements- Pressure pump producing 240 kpa (35psi).]

CERAMIC FILTER (0.4 micron - Very fine, will hold back parasites. Cleanable. Does not remove chemicals, pesticides, etc. Clean when flow is unacceptably reduced.) The use of a ceramic is required if the bacteria quality of the water is suspicious. [Flow Rate- 6 Lt/min max. with a pressure pump producing 240 kpa (35psi). LIFE - Cleanable for approximately 50,000 litres.]

HOUSING (Australian Made. Pressure Tested to 2700 kpa.). It is advisable to install a Pressure Limiting Valve prior to the housing.

SILVER CANNISTER [A-UB1, A-UB1A, A-UB2] (Original SilverSafe®) contains a bed of silver-coated quartz crystals. Water passes through, and bacteria is attracted to and destroyed by the silver. [Life- 16,000 litres. It is recommended to replace this when your carbon cartridge is replaced.]

THE B.E.S.T. STERILISER (For ALTERNATIVE Units) [E-UB1,E-UB1A, E-UB2] Silver is electronically released via a circuit and batteries. Water passes through a flow switch, which slides along with the current and activates a reed switch that turns on the circuit. The silver anodes are activated and start releasing a controlled amount of silver, and an LED is also activated (flashes red to green) to indicate the system is working.

MAINTENANCE FOR ELECTRONIC UNITS should the lights become dull; stay on one colour; or go out, the batteries need to be replaced. (4 x AA batteries are required).

LIFE - The life of the sanitiser is subject to water quality, but can be up to 3 - 5 years in a household situation. It requires replacing once the silver anode has worn away.
