A Word On... WATER FILTERS
Water Filters are not a new fad.
Water Filters have been around for centuries. However technology is constantly changing to meet the demands of new problems arising within the water control industry.
Here in Australia, giardia and cryptosporidium were virtually unheard of 20 years ago. Back then 5 micron filters were the most commonly used. Now we have biofilm, e.coli, legionella all being a potential risk we should consider protecting ourselves from.
There are many types of water filters and similar apparatus to treat water. Many of them are a breeding ground for bacteria, which can create a bigger problem than having no water protection at all. Others can be very costly initially and/or in the long run, can use copious amounts of water, or are time consuming and slow.
Water filters are designed mainly to remove the dirt and chemicals that are present in our water. These chemicals can be harmful over a long period of time (SEE 'A WORD ON... Chlorine'). Once those chemicals are removed, the water filter should also be able to combat the increased risk of bacterial contamination within the unit. Added to that is also the risk of infection from cysts and parasites (e.g. - giardia, cryptosporidium, etc.), which can cause instant discomfort and can effect your health.
As the world becomes more polluted, the need for a reliable water filtration unit is becoming even more important. There are many factors to be considered when choosing a filter.
Research is the best tool when choosing the right system to suit your circumstances.
