A Word On... CHLORINE
Chlorine is added to our water to assist in controlling bacteria. When chlorine combines with traces of decaying vegetation, etc it creates a problem called Trihalomethanes {THM's}. It is these THM's that have been positively linked to stomach, bowel and rectal cancer. The effectiveness of chlorine depletes dramatically in lower and higher temperatures. Chlorine only has an effective working range between 13 and 27 degrees. (The cold water tap in Southern QLD reached 33° C in December 2002.) With in 24 hours of filling your tanks chlorine can turn to a gas and release from your water leaving you with no protection. This is when bacteria multiply and can form biofilm in your tanks and pipework.
